Excerpt from Claudia Wädlich`s laudatory speech on the occasion of the exhibition after work in Oberhausen:
"There are the collages by Marion Birkholz from Düsseldorf, who works with photographs as a basis to show changeability, metamorphosis. She plays with industrial forms that build amorphous structures in its morbid decomposition - an industrial setting that is still visible, but no more in order. To make this process visible, she uses brutal techniques, she scrapes off, she picks up rusted finds. Yet these images have in their decay an aesthetic and depth that reminds me of the image of the Nordstern colliery, "Die sieben Himmelspaläste" of Anselm Kiefer, which are currently on show in the Küppersmühle Museum in Duisburg. A tunnel that leads to an unknown future that is both past and present.
Marion Birkholz studied visual communication in Aachen focusing on painting and photography. "

"Da sind die Collagen von Marion Birkholz aus Düsseldorf, die Fotografien als Ausgangsbasis für die Veränderlichkeit, die Metamorphose, bearbeitet. Sie spielt mit Industrieformen, die im morbiden Verfall amorphe Strukturen bilden. Eine Industriekulisse, die zwar noch visuell sichtbar ist, aber nicht mehr funktioniert. Um diesen Prozess sichtbar zu machen, bedient sie sich brutaler Techniken, sie kratzt ab, trägt verrostete Fundstücke auf. Dennoch haben diese Bilder in ihrem Verfall eine Ästhetik und eine Tiefe, die mich an das Bild von der Zeche Nordstern an "Die sieben Himmelspaläste" von Anselm Kiefer erinnern, die zur Zeit im Museum Küppersmühle in Duisburg zu sehen sind. Ein Tunnel, der in eine unbekannte Zukunft führt, die gleichzeitig Vergangenheit und Gegenwart ist.
